Building local partnerships for sustainable territorial and urban development
(9-10 May 2009 Damascus, Syria)

  Overview

Programme funded by the European Union and the Government of Syria, the Municipal Administration Modernisation (MAM) programme aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of local governance in many areas of life. Focusing initially on six cities across the country, the intention is to establish the framework needed to manage urban growth.
Over three years the programme will deliver a series of interlocking action plans covering legislative, financial and management reform. These will be tested in pilots in order to confirm tangible results. Put into effect, these plans will ensure a sustainable infrastructure that will make a real and positive difference - to the future of us all.
